In Memorial: John E. "Sunny" Rose

September 3, 1942 to May 4, 2015

John E. “Sunny” Rose, Jr., 72, of Millersville passed away on May 4, 2015. Sunny was born on September 3, 1942 in Baltimore. He grew up on a farm in Odenton, MD and had a life-long love of gardening. Sunny was a Letter Carrier and Supervisor for the US Postal Service for 42 years. He was a Life Member of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company, joining on Nov. 12, 1963 and served many terms as a line officer, board member and on numerous committees. He began his employment with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute on Jan. 27, 1977 and taught countless classes and coached and mentored many aspiring instructors over the years. Sunny was inducted into the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association Hall of Fame in 1998 and was also inducted into the Maryland State Firemen’s Association Hall of Fame in 2009. Sunny also received many awards and citations throughout his many years of service.

Sunny is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Karla Rose; his devoted children, John E. Rose, III and his wife, Tara and Brian C. Rose; his grandchildren, Jacob A. and Karly E. Rose; his brothers, William P. Rose, Sr. and his wife, Linda and Robert L. Rose and his wife, Pat. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company, 1425 Annapolis Rd., Odenton, MD 21113 on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2 PM. A time for visitation and fellowship will follow the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Odenton Vol. Fire Company. The doors will open at 1:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

OVFC members are requested to wear Class A or best available uniform. 

Annual Carnival coming to OVFC

The Odenton Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting their annual Carnival in May. The carnival will start on Tuesday May 19 and run through Memorial Day, May 25. The memorial day parade will start at 5:00pm on Monday May 25. You can pay one price everyday. 

The hours of the carnival are the following:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (May 19, 20, 21): 6:00pm
Friday, Saturday (May 22, 23): 5:30pm
Sunday (May 24): 5:00pm
Monday, Memorial Day (May 25): 4:00pm

Every night is bracelet night. Pay one price to ride till closing. The prices for the bracelets are $25.00. 

The parade will be at 5:00pm on Memorial Day, Monday May 25, 2015. Motorized apparatus lineup is at 4:00pm at t he BG&E Building on New Waugh Chapel Road. Marching Units will line up at the Bank of Glen Burnie and join the parade there.

A limited number of vendor spaces are available on the midway and in our community hall, $300 for the entire seven days.

OVFC to host Blood Drive

The blood drive that was scheduled for Saturday has been rescheduled. It will now be held on Tuesday June 23rd from 1:30pm to 7:00pm at the Odenton Fire Station.
